“Code Red” Full Movie – Surfing Goes Huge At Teahupoo Tahiti

0 Code Red Full Movie Surfing Goes Huge At Teahupoo TahitiOn August 27, 2011, the Billabong Pro Tahiti event on surfing‘s World Tour was placed on hold due to a massive swell bearing down on the famed big-wave spot, Teahupoo. With forecasts calling for unprecedented surf, some of the greatest surfers in the world descended on the island to be in the water, despite a “Code Red” called by the Tahitian Coast Guard, which sought to keep everyone on shore. See the historic day through the eyes of two surfers — the young gun Laurie Towner and the veteran Dylan Longbottom — as they catch some of the biggest, most dangerous surf ever recorded, much of it captured with the super slow motion Phantom Camera for never-before-seen imagery.

Big Wave Surfing Jaws Maui Surf Riders Massive Wipouts On 15m Barrel Wave January 2012 HD

0 Big Wave Surfing Jaws Maui Surf Riders Massive Wipouts On 15m Barrel Wave January 2012 HDThe surf break, a deep water reef break, is called “Jaws” due to the size and ferocity of the waves. The waves at “Jaws” are rumored to reach heights of 120 ft (36.6 m) on the face of the wave, moving as fast as 30 mph (48.3 km/h
Surf Clip Info
January 4, 2012 the waves at Jaws Maui were huge and many of the world’s top big wave surfers were out in force including Dave Wassell, Shane Dorian, Kohl Christensen, Danilo Couto, Nathan Fletcher, Shaun Walsh, Albee Layer and Kai Lenny,Geoff Rowley. There were plenty extreme drops, insane wipeouts and broken boards.
Jaws
The Jaws surf break is roughly three miles east of Pāʻia and just north of Pauwela from the Hana Highway (Route 36) at 20°56′36″N 156°17′52″W. A mostly unpaved road leads north from the highway between mile marker 13 and 14. The name Peʻahi for the break is a word-play on the nearby ancient area name, since the Hawaiians had several other words such as nalu for waves of water. When the Maui surfers John Roberson, John Lemus, and John Potterick were surfing the break in 1975, they noticed a sudden change in the conditions to huge dangerous waves, and gave it a nickname after the film Jaws, comparing the unpredictability to a shark attack.

In the 1980s, a few intrepid wind surfers reached the break from Hoʻokipa. The wave sizes at Jaws (which can exceed 60 feet (18 m) during the months of December to March) attract big wave surfers such as Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama using the tow-in surfing method of big wave surf riding they co-invented (with Darrick Doerner and Buzzy Kerbox). Since the steep cliffs and fast-moving waves prevent paddling to the break, surfers are towed by personal water craft launched from nearby areas such as the boat ramp at Māliko Bay
